The Brief:
To Design a Modern Family Garden with screening, adding interest and areas for a 1970's Semi-Detached.
The property is a typical 1970's semi-detached house with a modest front garden and enclosed rear garden. Existing features include lawn, patio and gravel area behind the garage. The garden currently experiences all day sun which moves to various areas throughout the day.
The Design
The aim is to totally transform this garden, creating a welcoming green space with areas of interest. The garden currently has no planting with height. For budget the original patio will be kept - also an area of morning sun. A new patio will be added to the end of the garden where the evening sun hits. The tall Carpinus Hedge at the rear belongs to the neighbour so to take advantage of this backdrop a matching hedge will be planted, which when established will create the illusion of a wall of green. Budget wise a new perimeter fence is a must as well as evergreen Prunus lusitanica Clear Stem Trees for screening.
Key Considerations:
East Facing Site - sun moves to different areas throughout the day.
Budget limited - work with the original patio, no original plants.
Screening - Add evergreen screening trees for privacy.
Seasonality - bulbs for early colour, evergreen for year round, summer perennials.
